We are currently developing a Graduate Mentoring Program. This program will be based on the format provided by our national organization. We will be scheduling mentor trainings soon.

The goal of this program is to provide another form of ongoing support for our graduated families. Families will be matched with a volunteer mentor when they enter the shelter. They will meet weekly with the mentor to develop a relationship. After the guest graduates from our shelter, the mentor will continue to meet with the graduate to provide ongoing support. If you are interested, please let us know, and we will keep you updated on our progress. We also will be updating the web page as we have more information.

We currently have two literacy programs that are always seeking volunteers.

Our Literacy and Job Center needs tutors for our adult guests in the mornings, Monday through Friday, 8 am to 12 pm. At Family Promise of Albuquerque, all adult guests are screened for challenges with literacy and to determine if they need tutoring to help with obtaining a GED. Guests who need assistance are then matched with tutors. Each tutor commits to a 2-hour shift to help with things like literacy, GED preparation, job searches and more.  This program receives funding through the New Mexico Coalition for Literacy (NMCL) and tutors will be given training to earn a certificate as a NMCL tutor.

We also are seeking educators to volunteer for our family literacy night, Thursday evenings. A group of tutors meet with the families at the host congregation each week and work with both the adults and children.

Volunteer Application:

Tell us about your experience!

...With a host or partner congregation

...With our Graduate Mentoring Program

...With our Literacy and Job Center

Host and partner congregations host our families in the evenings, provide "bedroom" space for each family, and provide meals. Host and partner congregations need volunteers to spend the night, prepare meals, and help with the Saturday group activities. Find out what churches and congregations are seeking volunteers, or contact your congregation and let them know you would be interested in working with them as a host congregation!
